How You Can Help Lodi Kids Prepare for School
One of the great things about Lodi that I’ve said before, I’ll say now, and will say again, is that we, as a city, do a great job supporting one another. We know that for our city to continue to be livable and lovable, it means supporting our neighbors so they can do their best. And believe it or not folks, summer vacation is wrapping up and Lodi Unified is about to be back in session. This time of year provides is a great opportunity for those of you looking for a simple yet impactful way to support local education.
Back to school shopping is a financial burden for many families, and a great opportunity for some of us who are looking to help lend a hand. According to Deloitte, Back to School shopping is the second biggest shopping season of the year, right behind the holidays, with 29 million households preparing to spend an estimated $27.6 billion. According to this same report, that breaks down to $513 per household. That’s a lot of money! Since the average family size includes 2 kids, we’re looking at just over $200 per kid. That money is being spent on growing kids needing new clothes and shoes, general school supplies, and then into electronics.
Spending money like this can be especially difficult for low-income families. The financial burden must be daunting. And no matter what our background is, parents can agree we all want the best for our children. Education is important and one of the main keys for preparing our kids for a successful future, and that’s what must make these financial stresses so much more difficult for some parents. We want to give our kids the tools they need to help them succeed in education and in their future.
If you’re someone who would like to help support Lodi kids getting ready to start school, the next time you’re at Target or wherever throw some fun school supplies in your cart… A binder, some pencils, maybe even a backpack! Then on your way home drop those school supplies off at an organization who is collecting backpacks and supplies to send kids off into a successful 2018-2019 school year. Lodi Live! asked Lodi residents to recommend a few places who are collecting and here’s what they came up with:
